Make It Yourself Harley Quinn Costume

Be a Super Villain for Halloween!

I have to start by saying that this make it yourself Harley Quinn costume was created entirely by my incredibly talented daughter! During Homecoming week at her high school, each day has a different theme and the kids dress up matching that theme. One day was “Super Hero” day, and she decided to be her favorite “Super Villain”, Harley Quinn. She pulled the outfit together with items from her own closet, and the only thing we bought was the costume wig (<– affiliate link)!

Creating costumes out of her closet is nothing new for my daughter… A few years ago, she dressed up as Hit Girl from the movie Kick Ass using things she found in her closet and she also created a Steam Punk costume (complete with antique goggles) for herself, as well. She did an awesome job!

In case you were wondering, here are a few facts about Harley Quinn:

• Her real name is Harleen Quinzel
• She was the psychiatrist to The Joker and became The Joker’s sidekick after he convinced her that he didn’t belong in a mental institution.
• Her weapons are clown-themed gadgets
• She has toxic immunity meaning that she cannot be poisoned!
• She is the roommate of Poison Ivy

Harley Quinn’s colors are red and black, so my daughter painted the ends of the blonde wig red and black. The wig was a bit thin in the back so she added a grey beanie to wear over it.

She asked me to cut diamonds from red and black vinyl to decorate her pants (her awesome faux leather pants!) and her t-shirt. She ended up peeling the diamonds off of the pants.

She did her own makeup, practicing the look the night before (I swear I think this girl has a career in design or makeup, or both, but she prefers Forensics!).

She accessorized with a red and black lace belt.

Then finished off the look with her own combat boots.

Is she a genius or what? I love how her costume came together, and she did everything the night before the event!
